What is IPL?
IPL is an innovative treatment using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to prevent signs of ageing and improve the appearance of skin discolouration. It targets a range of priorities including sun damaged skin, broken capillaries, redness, acne, fine lines and wrinkles. IPL technology emits multiple wavelengths of light into the skin, which is absorbed by damaged pigments in the blood vessels – encouraging natural collagen production within damaged, discoloured or marked skin. This helps to fill in fine lines, reduce redness, skin discolouration, and age spots. The priority areas that are targeted with the IPL are intentionally “damaged” and naturally removed by the body.
We offer IPL services for sun damage, sun spots, skin discolouration, redness, broken capillaries, cherry angioma, mild to moderate spots.
IPL works by applying rapid light pulses of variable wavelengths to the treatment area. The light is absorbed by the targeted chromophores (such as melanin in pigmentation or freckles). This light is then converted into heat energy which destroys the targeted area through controlled thermal damage, while ensuring surrounding healthy tissue remains untouched.
Immediately following your treatment you may feel “sunburnt” and the treated area may be red for several hours. Clients who have pigmentation will notice the pigment darken after the treatment. The pigmentation hardens and flakes off gradually over the next 2 weeks.
Improvements can be seen with every treatment, but a course of 3-6 treatments is recommended every 4 weeks from maximum results.
